Many Americans celebrate Armed Forces Day annually on the third Saturday of May. This year that date is Saturday, May 17. It is a day we pay tribute to men and women who serve in the various branches the United States’ armed forces. Armed Forces Day is also part of Armed Forces Week, which begins on the second Saturday of May. The following is a tribute to those who are serving and to those who served.

by Robert L. Heichberger

Taking time to remember the fearless,
who courageously serve with true valor.
To the men and women in our military branches
we pay humble and appreciative candor.

They are proud to be serving our Country
the land of the brave and the free.
The land of liberty, hope, and of courage
with Constitutional freedoms for you and for me.

They are proud to stand for our nation
in times of grave terror and strife.
And to walk the troubling road with virtue
with dignity—and true value for life.

With a tribute to the many who protect us
who fearlessly respond to the call...
They serve with justice and commitment
with valiant service for the defense of us all.

They are proud to stand for our Country
to serve for the things that are right.
To give of themselves, and for others
and to protect with true courage and might.

They are proud to be of service to our Country
it is a Nation of people, who are just
Who stand for the rights of all others
in a land of humility and trust.

They are proud to protect our great Country
and to stand for the causes that are right
And to give humbly for the safety of others
protecting sovereignty with all of their might

We are proud to pay tribute to all serving--
in the Armed Forces of our Nation they abide.
For they stand for the freedom of people
with unflinching courage and virtuous pride!
