"Gateway to the Southern Tier" is a classic statement. This is a wise and illustrative statement of fact! Indeed, much of our geographical region serves as that gateway. What magnificent regions in which to live, work, be educated, and enjoy. An essential element to the area is the availability of appropriate health care. Hospital facilities in Gowanda, Irving, Dunkirk, and Westfield are vital health care components. And in a health care emergency, distance is of the essence and timing is critical.

Unfortunately, a damaging flood occurred in the Gowanda area on August 10. It was a catastrophic event and Tri-County Hospital (TLC Health-Gowanda Campus), along with hundreds of the residents, was critically affected. The temporary closure of this Campus has seriously impacted a broad spectrum of the population of people of all ages. We call on Government officials and those in authority to strongly urge the public and private decision makers to move with prudence and haste to bring this strategic health care facility back in service as a functioning facility of health care.

President Ronald Reagan often used the term "A shining city on a hill" when referring to individuals and their impact on society. When referring to that concept, he must have had a place such as this region as a reference point. There are many that have depended on this hospital and the services it provides. People of all ages that live, work and travel through an area such as ours, expect and depend on quality health care and its availability, facilities and services.

There was an earlier generation of citizens who recognized this significant necessity and planned for that. By so doing, they also planned for the well being of future generations of this area. They were wise indeed! They scrimped and saved, sacrificed and worked to bring to this area a fine health care facility on Memorial Drive. Tri-County Hospital has been known, through these many years, as a facility providing outstanding patient treatment and care for people over a broad geographical region. Patients and their families come from Gowanda, Perrysburg, Collins, North Collins, Dayton, South Dayton, Cattaraugus, Leon, Otto, East Otto, Forestville, and a host of other nearby communities. Many have expressed verbally and in writing their grateful appreciation for the outstanding patient care received at this facility. A dependent population of people is reliant on the continued viability of Tri-County Hospital for health care professional services and units.

Truly, Gowanda is a geographical plus. The local hospital facility is an essential necessity for this area. In a critical health emergency, timing is strategic. Let it be said that our current generation of leadership recognizes its duty as did the generations of the past. Let it be said, that our leaders of today are resilient, thoughtful , and dynamic … as those of the past… and provided well for the health care needs of those whom now and will in the future live, work, and travel the shinning hill sides and valley of Gowanda and surrounding communities. Based upon the strength of the local past history, we are confident that the present generation and its leadership will move dynamically and expeditiously to meet the challenges of the present! THEY, along with all of US, can do no less! That is how we see it FROM OUR PERSPECTIVE.
